The Terminal Creek Salmon Hatchery is operated entirely by volunteers of the Bowen Island Fish & Wildlife Club. Without volunteers, it would be impossible to carry out the many salmon related and streamkeeping programs. The following is a description of activities that volunteers can get involved with.

Fish Culture: All aspects of raising fish in a hatchery. Egg takes, trough cleaning, feeding or bulk sampling are just a few to name.

Habitat Improvement: During the "fisheries window" work associated with debris removal, spawning beds, riparian vegetation

Fish Ladder Maintenance: Continuing monitoring, upgrading, & maintenance of the Bridal Falls ladders particularly during spawning periods.

Hatchery Maintenance: The buildings and hatchery site need to be maintained. Many volunteers lend assistance with cleaning, net mending and general upkeep.

Fish Releases: Each spring, the fry are released into the streams. From there, they head to the ocean to begin the salt water phase of their life cycle.

Open House/Public Events: Once or twice a year the Fish & Wildlife Club holds an open house at the hatchery, complete with tours, games for the kids and displays. These days always require a lot of help both for the preparations and the event itself. There are also opportunities for attending other events.

Coho Bon Voyage: An annual public involvement event now held on Bowen for more than 10 years with the cooperation of GVRD Parks and Fisheries & Oceans.

Streamkeepers: Field work involving the collection and monitoring of data, features, and quality of all fish bearing streams on Bowen. Work is undertaken with the guidance of the Pacific Streamkeepers Federation and information maintained in a DFO database system.

Special projects: Each year the Fish & Wildlife Club undertakes one or more projects that involve application for grant money and close cooperation with other organizations such as the Municipal Government, GVRD Parks, the Pacific Salmon Foundation and the Dept. of Fisheries & Oceans. Recent examples are the information kiosk at the causeway and the upgrade of the pond which serves as the Hatchery primary water source.
